Dan Sexauer hosts his show with guests DJs Sqyttles, Sketch and Echoz Aurora of 417Sounds. Dan hosts a show dedicated to the latest EJM and other music on The Growl at 11 P.M. on Tuesdays. (Please check the web site for most recent posts.) It was a lot of fun to play for everyone and I think this deserved a special place.
Expect more podcasts to come! Thanks and enjoy!

Here is the line-up from that night: Each DJ got an average of 1:15 of play time, but each DJ played for at least one hour.
DJ Audial (Dubstep)
Dj Mac (Electro/Full-on)
Double Helix (Electro/Progressive)
DJ Moondoggy (Psy)
LFDC FUNK (Live band/Jam)*
* The drummer was too sick to drum at the time, so Echoz Aurora from the 417Sounds group mixed full-on and goa-rock psy on his MIDI controller while accompanied was provided by free-form guitar and keyboard rhythms and textures. It sounded better than I expected!
The file’s bit rate is 128kbps CBR to save space. It’s over 6 hours and 25 minutes long! Future ones should be of higher quality. The recording results are definitely acceptable with no anomalies in the dynamics. I gotta give a shout-out to @kentfrost A.K.A. DJ Spiral, for recording this set on your lappy because my prog crashed when I switch to it.
I think all the music artists were on-freaking-point that night. The vibe and everyone’s moods just made the music a little more exciting and fun. The next one is going to massive!

Here’s some back story on the inspiration for creating this album. Around 10 months ago, I started work on my first serious demo: something I could give to people to prove I have some sense of music and I enjoy playing around with it. Since I was properly introduced to EDM 2005 when I first heard Andy C’s “Nightlife”, I wanted my mix to feature as many of my favorite tracks as possible while still fitting on an 80 minute CD-R. Not only track selection was important for me, I had in mind a particular flow of the tracks in terms of intensity, mood and even lyrics. I wanted this mix to tell a story, one I am all to familiar with: heartbreak. (Don’t we all experience with that, unfortunately?)
The set order conveys the emotions I’ve experienced after I’ve lost love with people whom did not appreciate, much less reciprocate, the feelings I had towards them. Frustration, anger and hope have taken monopoly over my emotional state at those times. The songs in this mix reflect these feelings that occur when one’s heart is broken.
The mix features the tracks that loved to play the most when I started DJing for audiences better than house parties. In nearly 80 minutes I cram in 28 tracks, most of which have liquid or jump-up vibes. Some neurofunk and darkstep tunes are cleverly placed to keep any listener equally surprised and amazed. The tracks have been mixed harmonically to yield very seamless transitions and multi-layered combinations that are guaranteed to please the ears. The mix was made in MixMeister Studio for precision beatmatching and as a means to easily layer tunes (as many as three tracks at a time). Bewarned of lots and lots of double drops (which are not for the faint of heart). Post-production was done in Sony Sound Forge to restore peaks that clipped. It is best to listen to my mix in one sitting, or at most two sessions, to understand the themes of this story and to experience the complete emotional range the album will pull you through.
Please play it back on decent speakers that don’t skimp on the highs and mids. Low bass is still crucial, but drum and bass tracks tend to fill out a very broad spectrum of frequencies audible to most people, from the very low to the very high. High quality headphones would also privde a quality listening experience. Listen to this in your car because “Love Loss” will energize, soothe, uplift and scare you, often in the course of under 15 minutes! Hopefully the mixing will keep you alert and prevent you from falling asleep!
Burn copies of this for your friends or just tell them to download it from here, even if you think they wouldn’t/don’t like drum and bass! After they listen to it, tell them to leave a comment on this post telling me what they thought of it. (You should do the same. I’m all ears when it comes to criticism, but not hating. Haha!) I’ve converted many people, ranging from friends to strangers, with my track selections and showed them the true power of the jungle (and the dub) side. Bwa-ha-ha! Enjoy and please holla back!

I felt obligated to get this mix on this site because it’s not hosted anywhere else on the ‘net at the moment and it has been offline from http://sqyttles.com for a while. The other DJs of 417Sounds are sure to represent properly with demos as well. We’ll also be hosting original production work from us.
